Pretzel & Stouffer Attorneys Win Defense Verdict for Hospital and Physician in Fatal Hemorrhage Case

Pretzel & Stouffer attorneys Mr. Timothy Weaver and Ms. Christine Iversen recently won a not guilty verdict for a defendant hospital and physician after a 17-day trial. The case involved a 43-year-old man who died of a massive brain stem hemorrhage after being treated for infections but not for his hypertension and a chronic intracranial hemorrhage, despite complaining of headaches. He left behind a 17-year-old son.

The suit alleged that the physician Mr. Weaver and Ms. Iversen defended failed to treat the patient’s blood pressure and to contact his primary physician. Mr. Weaver and Ms. Iversen successfully argued that treatment of the patient’s hypertension was properly deferred to his primary physician and that the patient showed no signs of intracranial hemorrhage or indications that he needed a CT scan. The patient’s estate demanded $2 million before trial and asked the jury for $1.6 million, as well as compensation for pain, suffering, and loss of normal life.
