SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM

Each year, our firm seeks to recruit engaged and enthusiastic law students with strong communication and interpersonal skills who are interested in practicing law in the fast-paced Chicago market. 

Our summer program is designed to provide a realistic and rewarding experience reflecting life as a first-year associate at the firm. Our summer associates are mentored by partners and associates and are given opportunities to participate in a wide range of meaningful assignments and activities, including substantive research and writing projects, active participation in discussing and defining case strategy, and direct exposure to the Cook County and federal court systems.

As a summer associate at Pretzel & Stouffer, you will join a friendly, supportive team of lawyers with a seven-decade reputation for excellence. You will have the opportunity to join an established firm with an outstanding client base and guidance for your career trajectory.

Successful candidates in the summer program will receive a prorated salary commensurate with first-year associates in the firm. We are no longer receiving applications for our program for the Summer 2022.  We will begin accepting applications for Summer 2023 on and after October 1, 2022.

Medical Negligence Associate Attorney

Celebrating its 75th year in existence, Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered has earned and maintained its reputation as one of the most successful firms in Chicago.  Prolific in both its trial results and in its appellate work, Pretzel & Stouffer is looking to add a new associate to its collaborative team.

Pretzel & Stouffer is currently seeking a litigation associate for its professional liability/medical negligence group.  Once hired, the candidate will be working in a hybrid office/remote setting to defend high-exposure matters during all phases of litigation to represent and defend hospitals, health systems, long-term care facilities, and individual healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include developing expert witness and trial strategy, conducting and defending depositions, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, and representing clients during courtroom appearances and arguments.  Qualifications: 2 to 6 years’ practice in civil litigation with experience in conducting and defending depositions preferred. Excellent research skills, writing skills, and verbal communication required.  Illinois license is mandatory.  Indiana license is a benefit.
