Steve Veltman is an experienced trial attorney practicing in distinct areas of professional liability with a focus on the defense of mental health practitioners. Steve has defended institutions in cases of alleged childhood sexual abuse. Steve applies his understanding of psychological diagnoses to all cases in which mental health damages are an issue. In addition to his work in medical malpractice, Steve has successfully tried cases involving construction liability, premises liability, product liability, transportation and maritime law in both state and federal courts.
Steve values strong communication with his clients and his responsiveness to them sets him apart from other attorneys. Steve believes that it is only through understanding his clients’ practice and the desired outcome that a successful strategic plan can be set in place early in the litigation process. Steve combines strong advocacy with the highest degree of professionalism.
Steve was a member of the trial team that successfully obtained a verdict on behalf of the Republic of France in the 1978 Amoco-Cadiz oil spill litigation. Steve is an active member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He has served as past Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee, Section Counsel for the Illinois State Bar Association Admiralty and Maritime section, and past President and Director of the Propeller Club of the United States-Port of Chicago.
