Tom is a partner with Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered, where he focuses on medical malpractice defense, professional liability defense and general commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, and has acted as first and second chair on several successful trials and arbitrations. Tom has also successfully represented his clients in the Illinois appellate courts.

Much of his practice consists of medical malpractice defense. Tom has substantial experience in defending physicians, hospitals and extended care facilities in various fields of medicine, including emergency medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, internal medicine, urology, nursing, obstetrics, general surgery and plastic surgery. Tom also represents physicians before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In addition, he defends professional liability actions on behalf of attorneys and insurance brokers, involving myriad underlying claims. His experience in commercial litigation includes defending claims involving fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, retaliatory discharge, whistle-blowing, conspiracy and violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.
