For more than 20 years, Michael has devoted his practice to assisting clients in insurance coverage matters. His work primarily focuses on representing insurers and insureds in coverage dispute litigation, including property and casualty, auto, insurance company professional liability, insurance company management liability, bad faith, and contribution between insurers. In addition, Michael has participated in drafting several insurance policy provisions.
Michael has represented clients throughout the United States, as well as several internationally based companies, in both state and federal courts. His litigation experience ranges from matters which involve a few thousand dollars to complex multidistrict disputes requiring international discovery with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake.
As a member of his firm’s technology committee, Michael possesses a sophisticated understanding of computers and e-discovery methods and issues. Michael’s background allows him to provide clients with the best representation while also keeping the scope and costs of work reasonable.
Michael joined Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered, in May 1988. Along with his work on the technology committee, he also serves as co-chair of the firm’s pro bono committee. For the several past years, he has coordinated the firm’s contributions to Best’s Insurance Guide summaries of Illinois law. Aside from a brief departure during his college years, Michael is a lifelong resident of the Chicago area.
