In his professional malpractice litigation work, Matthew defends mortgage professionals, real estate brokers, certified public accountants, lawyers, engineers, appraisers, insurance brokers, licensed property and home inspectors, and other professionals in Illinois and federal courts. He also represents a variety of professionals in administrative licensure claims brought by Illinois and its various agencies.
Matthew’s tort defense work involves representing nursing homes and long-term-care facilities, product manufacturers and distributors, and premises owners. He has also represented trustees and executors of estates against claims of breach of fiduciary duty from beneficiaries, and in claims seeking a court declaration about how a particular trust or will should operate.
In addition, Matthew has defended condominium associations and their board members in claims ranging from statutory violations to breaches of fiduciary duty.
His commercial litigation experience involves complex contract disputes, including breach-of-contract claims relating to complex product warranty claims, shareholder derivative claims, bank regulatory and enforcement civil actions, directors and officers liability insurance matters, and employment and restrictive covenant matters. He also has litigation experience involving breach of contract, consumer fraud and unfair competition claims.
While earning his degree with honors in History and Social Sciences at DePaul University, Matthew was selected to study in Belgium, where his courses focused on the development of European Union law. After teaching for a few years, Matthew returned to DePaul University College of Law, obtaining his degree cum laude. He was also selected to represent the school through a foreign exchange program with University College Dublin School of Law in Ireland, where he studied European Union law.
