Mary is an associate with Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered. Mary handles complex civil litigation in state and federal courts, including product liability defense litigation, multidistrict litigation, professional malpractice defense, aviation litigation, intellectual property litigation, commercial litigation and tort defense.
During her second year with the firm, Mary served as lead trial counsel in a weeklong jury trial in Cook County, where she represented the driver of a semi-trailer truck involved in a rear-end collision in Kankakee, Ill. Mary successfully argued that the 23-year-old plaintiff’s disc herniation was not caused by the collision and ultimately obtained a favorable verdict from the jury.
Recently, Mary argued and won a motion for summary judgment on behalf of a flight simulator company that allegedly trained a pilot-in-command of a Cessna 421B one month before the pilot crashed the airplane during a landing at Chicago Executive Airport, killing all four men on board. In a case of first impression, Mary argued that Illinois should follow the majority of other jurisdictions, which recognize the educational malpractice defense.
While in law school at Loyola University Chicago, Mary was one of 10 students to receive the Philip H. Corboy Fellowship Award in Trial Advocacy, and was invited to join Loyola’s Mock Trial team. Her team won the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Regional Mock Trial Competition and was a finalist at Georgetown University's National White Collar Crime Mock Trial Competition. Mary was also a dean's list student and a research assistant to Professor Christian A. Johnson.
