Charlie has spent the last 25 years at Pretzel & Stouffer, where he has focused on representing physicians and health care institutions throughout Illinois. He has successfully defended numerous complex and catastrophic-injury cases. Raised by parents who were medical professionals, Charlie has a distinct passion for this area of law. He prides himself on bringing the highest level of competence and compassion to the defense of health care providers, consistently obtaining the best possible results for his clients.

The trial record Charlie has accumulated over the years is notable for both the number of cases he has brought to verdict and the high percentage of “not-guilty” judgments. Charlie is most proud of the defense verdicts he has obtained in particularly difficult cases that involved catastrophic injuries or death with complex medical issues of liability. He has also represented physicians in matters before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Outside work, Charlie spends considerable time organizing and participating in charitable service, including Rebuilding Together and the Appalachia Service Projectsm. In addition, along with his wife, Susan, and their daughter, Molly, Charlie established the Save a Soul Foundation, an Illinois charity that funds secondary education for Kenyan children and is helping to finance the building and maintenance of an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya.

Charlie is also an artist, working primarily with watercolors and stained glass, as well as an avid and un-accomplished golfer.
